2008 - 9 Fellowship and Summer Associate Award Recipients
Fellowship:
•Kimberly Liu, a 2008 graduate of Harvard Law School, will be working with the NAACP Legal Defense
and Educational Fund in New York City. Ms. Liu was Notes Editor of the Harvard Law Review and research assistant
for Professor Lani Guinier.
Summer Associate Award:
•Dr.
Vinay Harpalani, who is entering his third year at New York University School of Law, is working with the
Campaign for Educational Equity, Teacher's College, Columbia University, New York City. Dr. Harpalani has a
Ph.D. in education from the University of Pennsylvania and has published extensively in the area of education.
•Amanda
Rivas, who is entering her third year at St. Mary's University School of Law in Texas, is working with the
Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund in San Antonio, Texas. Amanda is a former public school teacher
and a 2008 Hispanic National Bar Association Moot Court team member.

Woolley, JD, American University Law School, Washington, DC, is working with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil
Rights Under the Law and the Mississippi Center for Justice.
- Mr. Mark Paige, JD, PhD (candidate),
University of Wisconsin at Madison Law School, Madison, Wisconsin, is working with the Wisconsin Education Association Council.
- Mr. Brian Downing, a third year law student, University of Okalahoma Law School, Norman, Oklahoma,
worked with the General Counsel’s Office of the Okalahoma Education Association.
